Prime Biodiversity Conservation: Protecting Nature for People

We enhance biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of natural resources through supporting conservation actions and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Our Story

Prime Biodiversity Conservation is a Rwandan-based not-for-profit organization that was founded in 2018 by a group of passionate and dedicated conservationists. We saw the urgent need to address the challenges and threats facing the rich and unique biodiversity of our country and beyond. We also recognized the potential and opportunities to improve the well-being and livelihoods of our communities through nature-based solutions. We decided to create an organization that would focus on enhancing biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and sustainable management of natural resources. We named it Prime Biodiversity Conservation, because we believe that biodiversity is the prime factor for human survival and development.

Why we care

We care because we love nature and we love people. We care about biodiversity, because it is the foundation of life on Earth. It provides us with food, water, medicine, materials, and many other benefits.

It also regulates the climate, purifies the air, filters the water, and maintains the soil. It supports our health, culture, spirituality, and identity. It is our heritage, our responsibility, and our legacy.

We care about climate change, because it is the biggest threat to biodiversity and humanity. It affects every aspect of our lives, from our health to our economy.

It increases the frequency and intensity of natural disasters, such as droughts, floods, storms, and fires. It alters the distribution and abundance of species, habitats, and ecosystems. It exacerbates poverty, hunger, conflict, and migration. We care about natural resources, because they are the basis of our livelihoods and development.

They provide us with income, employment, energy, and security. They enable us to meet our basic needs and aspirations. They are essential for our growth and prosperity.
